About Waitomo TOP 10

We are located right in the heart of Waitomo Caves Village so you can walk to everything Waitomo has to offer. Our accommodation are all modern and well maintained. They include Park Motels, Ensuite units, Deluxe and standard cabins. We also have powered caravan/motorhome sites, and unpowered sites for tents and small backpacker vans. Our facilities include free swimming pool and hot tub, playground trampolines, internet (wireless and kiosk) covered BBQ area, advise and booking service for all activities.

Apart from caving, activities in the region include horsetrekking, a museum, rabitshearing!!, the beautiful Ruakuri walkway, the Mangapohue Natural Bridge, and the Marakopa Falls.

Park Facilities

The facilities within our park are modern and well maintained. They include free BBQ's, swimming pool and hot tub. Kids playgrounds and trampolines. The amenties associated with a Top 10 park also include laundry, communal facilities and  Internet (kiosk and wireless). Our experienced reception staff will jelp you chose an activity while in town and organise it for you. We provide torches free of charge for you to go on the Ruakuri evening glowworm walk.

Attractions

Glowworm Cave
The original Glowworm cave has been one of New Zealand major attractions for many years. The glowworm is unique to the region and this cave has the most outstanding display you will see. The normal tour is 45 minutes long and is suitable for people of all ages. You can combine the glowworm cave with other caving experiences and make you experience in Waitomo exciting and varied.

Ruakuri Cave
A cave with stunning colours and formations it has only recently been re-opened to the public. The "man-made" entrance is an engineering feature of the cave. The tour is 2 hours long and the pathways are formed to enable anyone to take part and at the same time avoid any damage to the cave itself.Combine this cave with the Glowworm Cave and have an exciting and varied experience over 1 or 2 days.

Spellbound
The very "personalised" trip takes in 2 caves, both with great formations and one with outstanding glowworm displays. This trip featured on David Attenborough's Planet Earth series on Discovery Channel. You need to allow 3 1/2 hours.

Getting There

From the North (Auckland, Hamilton)

Take State Highway 1 to Hamilton. Cross to SH3 and travel south. 11 South of Otorohanga turn right into SH 37. Stay on SH 37 until you reach Waitomo Caves Village (approx) 7 km's. We are on the right as you come into the village

From the South (New Plymouth)

State Highway 3 out of New Plymouth. Stay on SH 3 until you reach SH 37, 11 Kms north of Te Kuiti. Turn left into SH 37, and stay on this road until you come to Waitomo Caves Village (approx. 7kms). We are on the right as you come into the village.

From the East:

From Taupo and Rotorua we suggest the southern route linking up with SH30. Stay on SH 30 until you reach te Kuiti. Travel north out of Te Kuiti on SH 3 for 11km's where you reach SH 37. Turn left into SH 37 and stay on this road until you reach Waitomo Caves Village (approx 7 Km's). We are on the right as you come into the village.
