We are located in the Waitomo District, in the heart of the Kings Country, situated in the central western North Island. Waitomo is a Maori word made up of 2 parts. ‘Wai’ meaning water and ‘tomo’ - hole in the ground. Waitomo - A stream that flows into a hole in the ground. A reference to its world famous Limestone caves.
Being the home of caves and Glow Worms, Waitomo has an abundance of attractions involving these. So why not do things a bit differently and take a night Ruakuri bush walk, and be amazed at the Glow Worms lining the path, and the deafening noise of the rivers rushing underground.
For the adventurous there are numerous opportunities - try abseiling 100m into the Lost World, or put on a wetsuit and go black water rafting. Otherwise explore the underground network of caves and gently float through a glow worm grotto.
Above ground there are a number of beautiful bush walks including natural bridges, waterfalls and fossils, horse-trekking, quad biking and animal shows. Or venture to the local towns of Otorahanga and Te Kuiti for a real taste of ‘Kiwi’, as they are the home of ‘Kiwiana’ and the ‘Kiwi House’.
