Pohara TOP 10 Holiday Park is located 10 km from Takaka in Golden Bay at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. It is on the doorstep of the less crowded end of Abel Tasman National Park. Pohara is 2 hours drive from Nelson and about 4 hours from the Interislander ferry terminal at Picton.
Abel Tasman National Park is New Zealand’s smallest and most perfectly formed national park. The region is famous for its arts and crafts and its beautiful safe swimming beaches. Farewell Spit is a world renowned bird colony and the wild West Coast beach of Wharariki is known for its seal colony and sand dunes.
Takaka Hill, a marble and limestone outcrop is also the location of Ngarua Caves where you can see bones of the extinct large NZ bird, the Moa. Canaan Downs on Takaka Hill holds a New Year’s Eve music festival. Te Waikoropupu Springs – site of the clearest water in the world. The Mussel Inn for music and a pint.
Walking the Abel Tasman Track, sea kayaking and water taxi cruises into the park are all ‘must-do’ activities. Local arts and crafts, farewell spit tours, bird colony, seal colony on west coast beaches, tramping in Kahurangi National Park.
