Whale Watching in Kaikoura (boat)
Take a Whale Watch tour, and amaze in wonder at these giants of the sea - the sperm whale. Tours are available all year round, please check with Whale Watch Kaikoura for scheduled times or ask at our reception.  Tours are not suitable for children under 3 years.  Trips are weather dependant. Dolphin Encounter - Watching
Take a trip out to watch the Dusky Dolphins and their acrobatic displays in their own natural environment off the beautiful Kaikoura coast from the comfort of a boat.  Tours are available all year round, please check with Dolphin Encounter for scheduled times or ask at our reception.  Tours are not suitable for children under 3 years.  Trips are weather dependant. Dolphin Encounter - Swimming
A once in a lifetime trip to swim with the playful, acrobatic dusky dolphins in their natural environment in the open ocean! Tours are available all year round, please check with Dolphin Encounter for scheduled times or ask at our reception.  Swimming tours are not suitable for children under 8 years (but 3 - 7 year olds can take part of tour as a watcher).  Trips are weather dependant.

Seal Swimming
Boat or shore based guided seal swimming tours. Swimming with fur seals is one of the world's rarest and most rewarding marine mammal experiences.  All gear provided.
Cost: $60-$70 5-14 years & $110 adults
Albatross/Bird Watching
Kaikoura's best kept secret is its incredible diversity of pelagic (ocean going) birds. Kaikoura is the albatross capital of the world with up to 14 different species visiting the area throughout the year. Just a 15 minute boat journey from the coast brings you into range to view a huge range of albatross and pelagic birds.

Mt Lyford Alpine Resort
This family orientated ski field has great learner runs along with a few harder courses for those wanting a challenge.  Play at the ski field during the day and come back to Kaikoura TOP 10 in the evening to relax.  Opening dates are dependent on the snow conditions.  All equipment available to hire.

Marine Aquarium
Starting small and relying on donations, the Kaikoura Marine Aquarium is a new, developing project focused on education, research, conservation and awareness of the local marine life. A great activity for children with hands on touch tanks and lots to learn!

Kaikoura Golf Club
Kaikoura's 18 hole golf course offers something for every golfer, from beginner to low handicapper, just 5km south of Kaikoura.  Golf carts, clubs and trundlers for additional hire.  Green fees apply.

Getting There

Kaikoura is situated midway between Christchurch and Picton on the east coast. You will find us centrally located at 34 Beach Road, Kaikoura.  Beach road is the main road through Kaikoura.

Directions to Kaikoura TOP 10 from the North: from Picton/Blenheim or Nelson area.

Kaikoura is 1 ½ hours south of Blenheim on SH1.  Travel south on SH1 into Kaikoura.  SH1 becomes Beach Road.  From the North we are located on the left hand side of Beach Road, this is 300 metres before the left turn off to the town centre (West End).

Directions to Kaikoura TOP 10 from the South: from Christchurch.

We are two hours north of Christchurch.  Travel North on SH1 into Kaikoura. Continue along SH1 which becomes Churchill Street and then becomes Beach Road.  From the South we are located on the right hand side of Beach Road, 300 metres after the turn off to the town centre (West End).
