Attractions
Dig a hole at Hot Water Beach. This can be done two hours either side of the low tide. Some volcanos develop huge underground reservoirs of superheated water. Over time, this water will escape to the surface — cooling on the way. There are two fissures at Hot Water Beach issuing water as hot as 64ºC (147ºF) at a rate as high as 15 litres/minute. This water contains large amounts of salt (NOT salt water), calcium, magnesium, potassium, fluorine, bromine and silica. There are other hot water springs nearby but the location of these two springs on the beach make them unique
Drive to Hahei, turn left at the shops and follow this road all the way to the top look out. This walk will take you 30 minutes each way. You can also get to Cathedral Cove on the Hahei Explorer, Glass bottom boat or Cathedral Cove Kayaks. All tour bookings can be arranged at the office.
The stone wharf located on the Ferry Landing side of the river was built in 1837 and is reputed to be the first stone wharf built in Australasia. It was commissioned by a timber merchant who owned a trading post and ship building yard in the area. The stone used for the steps were obtained from a nearby source and were fashioned by native unskilled labour. The Whitianga (town side) wharf was first built in 1882.
The Lost Spring is a unique thermal hot water and spa experience located on New Zealand’s Pacific coast. With its sculpted pools, soothing waterfalls, and smoking volcano, the Lost spring offers more than simply a swim in hot water.
Far from the hustle and bustle of daily life lies The Waterworks, five acres of fun filled gardens set in the beautiful Coromandel bush. With 70+ individual attractions to look at, interact with or play on.
They are located along the 309 Road which will take you a pleasant 1hr drive from the Holiday Park.
The railway has taken 27 years to be built by the owner Barry Brickell. The 1 hour round trip on NZ’s only narrow gauge mountain railway features superb views. Magnificent engineering, unique art features and replanted native kauri forest. Situated 3km north of Coromandel town and 1 hr drive from the Holiday Park.
