Old Cromwell Town

The Origins of Old Cromwell Town Historic Precint.

In 1990 Lake Dunstan was formed to store water for the Clyde Hydro Dam. The lake flooded the main street of the original township of Cromwell which dated back to the gold rush of the 1860:s Some of the historic buildings from the precint were saved, dismantled and rebuilt on the new site of Old Crowell Town Precint. This Precint seeks to preserve the unique living record  of the heritage of Cromwell for generations to come. The historic precint is on the shores of lake dunstan and can be found by following the map on the back of the brochure. The Argus Newspaper office on Main Street has a display of information on the old town and there is a free self-guide map there for your walk around. You are welcome to walk into the museum buildings and to visit the working Artisans and shops around this area. Old Cromwell has authentis stone buildings, a mud brick cottage, the London Stables. It is situated on abeautiful lake side setting.There is art work in metal,  local artists works and cafes to enjoy the edible delights.

Cromwell Golf Club

The Cromwell golf course sits comfortably on land similar to that of the famous Melbourne belt. The combination of the expansive rolling dunes of the front nine and the more traditional tree lined nature  of the back make for an endlessly interesting golf experience. Cromwell is a course that will challenge golfers of all abilities.

5249m from the ladies tee.  5885m from the club tee.  6208m from the championship tee.

The golf course offers electric carts, trundlers, practice facilities. and the hire of golf clubs. They have a full range of golfing accessories at the golf shop, lessons as a group or an individual can be organised.  Club House facilities - Bar and cafe operating on clubdays or by prior arrangement.  .Evening meals served at weekends and holiday periods.

Summer membership $251.00.  Fees vary with type of game you wish to play.

Briar Dell

Garden Nursery,Lavender Farm and Still room.  An Aromic Central Otago Garden. 
Informal rooms enclosed by trees, clipped hedging and stone walls within an historic setting.  Plants seen growing in the nursery can be bought, ie Lavendars, herbs, old roses and perrinials.  The lavendar paddock produces oil and dried lavendar bunches for sale in the Still Room.

Open five days a week, closed Monday and Tuesday from October-March. Briar dell is opening a shop in Old Cromwell Town which will be open 7 days a week from the 17/11/10.

Cromwell and Districts Museum Central Otago

Experience the social life in the late 1800s, discover the influences that have shaped Cromwells past. Explore the stories of gold dredging, our early pioneer woman, the goldminers and the chinese, their lives,their world.Marvel at their stoic determination in their search for gold from the treacherous Kawarau and Clutha-Mata-au Rivers. Clutha River Cruises

Expore the mighty Clutha River.Journey the isolated reaches of the historic and picturesque thyme studded Roxburgh Gorge. View the mining sites of Doctors Point and Butchers Point to see the rock huts the miners existed in all those years ago. Take in some of the most stunning scenery that only Central Otago can provide. This is a trip for the whole family.

Charters.  Steve will cater for any preferred river experience and broaden  your enjoyment of this superb isolation.  A must trip for education groups the NV Nevache offers extraordinary views of intact historical sites lodged throughout the Roxburgh Gorge.  Chartered cruises, Private Functions, Special Events, Historic Tours.  This vessel is surveyed and licensed to carry 18 adults at one time of a party or 18 school-aged children and four adults.

Paint Ball Central

TEN ACRES OF PURE HELL AND YOU WONT WANNA LEAVE.

Get dressed in camoflaged gear, get a gun, sneak around our pines, seek your targets, get them first beford they get you.  Play bushball or shanty town-60 shops, 2 streets,alleyways. Urban warfare at its best.  There is no age limit but children must be accompanied by adults. Open 7 days a week , daylight-dusk.  There is a shooting gallery to show off your skills, 14 games that can be played eg defend the fort, capture the flag, hummer down etc. Specials are ongoing.

Shotover Jet

World famous as the ultimate jet boat experience.  A unique breathtaking ride through dramtic, narrow, canyons and Queenstown's only exhilarating full 360 Degree spins!  The Spectacular Shotover River Canyons.  Shotover Jet operates on an exclusive area of the Shotover River and is the only compnay permitted to operate within its spectacular canyons, carved out over the ages by a vast volume of fast flowing water.  The very grandeur of this spectacular environment, less than 10 minutes drive from Queenstown, adds to the excitement and exclusivity of the Shotover Jet experience.  Boat ride 15 minutes duration.

The River Boarding Company

River Boarding is the most action packed and personally challenging white water activity you can do.  In the beginning... Since a crazy raft guide first went down the Kawarau and Shotover Rivers on a body board back in 1985.  River Boarding is now an exciting adventure activity for those who love water sports.

Kawarau Bridge Bungy

 The Original.  The historic Kawarau Bridge is home of bungy pioneers.  AJ HACKETT and Henryvan Aschs first commercial bungy site started in 1988.  43m above the Kawarau river, it is still the most popular in NZ. Free jump t-shirt.  Cafe and gift shop on site.

Nevis Bungy

The highest - 134 metres.  Austalasias highest bungy.  8.5 seconds of freefall.  Enjoy the fresh mountain air while you get harnessed up and take our cable car out to the jump pod.

The Ledge Bungy

The Ledge bungy is located at the top of the Skyline Gondola. It is 400 m above Queenstown.  Night jumps, Harness jumps, twist flip and dive. 1 hr round trip.  Free jump t-shirt.

The Ledge Swing
At 400m above Queenstown the Ledge Swing takes you to new heights. Swing out over town. It is right next to the Ledge Bungy. Get the most craziest view of Queenstown. There are heaps of great combinations, just ask and you will save money.

Getting There

Arriving from Alexandra or the Lindis Pass via State Highway 8, turn onto State Highway 8B crossing Deadmans Point Bridge over Lake Dunstan. We are the first turn on the left, 200m along Alpha Street to the Park entrance.  

Arriving from Queenstown and Wanaka while travelling on State Highway 6, turn onto State Highway 8B passing the fruit sculpture on your right. Continue on for 2 kms past Freeway Orchard, then take the next turn on the right into Alpha Street. Travel 200m along to the Park entrance.

From the Cromwell Mall turn right onto Barry Avenue, left onto Neplusultra Street, the continue down past the golf course to the end of the road. Turn left onto Alpha Street and travel 300m to the Park entrance.
