About Blue Lake TOP 10

Nestled on the edge of the beautiful Lake Tikitapu (also known as Rotorua's Blue Lake), Blue Lake TOP 10 Holiday Park has over 14 acres of well-maintained grounds set in a tranquil native bush setting. It is centrally located in the North Island of NZ and a great base to for day trips to nearby Taupo, Waitomo Caves and the Bay of Plenty.

At Blue Lake TOP 10, you can wake up to the singing of native birds with the lake only a short distance from your accommodation. The holiday park is located a short 10 minute drive from the centre of Rotorua, offering the best of both worlds - close to attractions and shops, yet removed from the enclosed city environment.

The Holiday Park is conveniently located to take advantage of surrounding Lakes Okareka, Tarawera and Tikitapu (Blue Lake). The Blue Lake area also hosts a number of top sporting events throughout the year so be sure to book early and get close to the action! There are great boating and watersport

Park Facilities

Recently completed is the new dining room and kitchen which is available for guests to use. With cafe style seating, guests can relax and share their travels with their NZ hosts or fellow travellers. Outddor BBQs provide for guests the opportunity to have that classic new NZ style meal which Kiwis have come to enjoy! Clean amenities - some with underfloor heating are situated within the Park. For children and young adults we have our recreation room - great for any wet days and evenings, fun bikes, table tennis, internet (including wireless), kayak hire and of course - the Blue Lake which is directly out the front of the Holiday Park. On a hot day, you won't want to be anywhere else but enjoying the crystal clear waters of one of Rotorua's most iconic lakes!

Kayak Hire at the Blue Lake

Enjoy a leisurely paddle on the Blue Lake, exploring some of the native bush scenery or stopping for a swim! Single kayaks and Double kayaks are available with life jackets and paddles. Great activity for all ages. Half hour charges start from $8.00 per person. Daily rates are negotiable. Kayak hire is available from the Blue Lake TOP 10 Holiday Park Reception.

Thermal Activity - Wai-O-Tapu

Waiotapu is famous for the Champagne Pool, Bridal Veil Falls and the Lady Knox Geyser which plays daily at 10.15am. Mud pools enroute to Waiotapu are well worth visiting. OPEN: 8.30am-5pm Daily. Entrance Fee charge. Located 27km south of Rotorua. Great coffee stop for those travelling from Rotorua - Taupo. Enquire at Blue Lake reception for discount voucher.

Thermal Activity - Waimangu Volcanic Valley
Formed in 1886, this very active geothermal area is the newest in the world. See Frying-Pan, the worlds largest hot spring. Amazing inferno crater that rises and falls 10 metres per month, huge steaming cliffs, numerous boiling springs and fumeroles, and the delicate warbrick terraces. Located approx 20kms south from Rotorua. Open Daily: 8.30am - 5pm

Termal Activity - Te Puia

Te Puia offers the wonders of the Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley with the iconic Pohutu geyser. Visitors also have the opportunity to observe Maori carving and weaving as well as having the opportunity to experience the hospitality through a guided tour (hourly), listening to the stories and legends of the Maori people. A Cultural performance is held daily at 10.15am, 12.15pm and 3.15pm where the famous haka can be seen. Te Puia also offers a display area for the NZ Kiwi bird.

Thermal Activity - Hells Gate

A unique 50 acre park with vistas of boiling mud and fumeroles.  Relax in a geothermally enriched mud bath or treat yourself to to a therapy package in the sulphur spa complex on site, refreshing and revitalising your body. Open daily 8.30am - 8.30pm, located just 15 minutes from Rotorua with pick-ups from your accommodation available makes this an indulgence to be savoured.

Trout Springs - Rainbow Springs

See live Kiwi on a Kiwi encounter, and wander the trails amonst native trees and ferns bordering crystal clear trout pools.  You'll encounter Tui, cheeky Kaka and a variety of other animals on your travels.  Open 8am - 10pm daily with an unlimited 24 hour pass makes it great family value.

Trout Springs - Paradise Valley Springs

Situated 15 minutes from Rotorua in native bush.  The easy trails provide superb views of wild trout in spring-fed pools.  Wander past many displays of animals including the rear Golder possum, Fallow deer and Captain Cook pigs.  Get up close to a pride of African lions and possibly pat a lion cub! Open daily 8am - dark (last park entry 5pm).

See a live sheep shearing show complete with sheepdog demonstrations, lamb feeding, and different sheep breeds to see.  A 12 acre organic orchard with an education centre, wool craft history display and a tempting cafe complete the experience a whole family can enjoy.  Open daily from 8.30am and just 5 minutes from the city center.

Rotorua Museum

Set in the beautiful Government Gardens the museum explores the history of Rotorua including the devastatiing 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera - complete with an active cinema experience you won't forget!  Open daily with guided tours on the hour.

Scenic Flights

Enjoy the 'birds eye view' on a scenic flight over Rotorua's geothermal landscape. A variety of flights available including a Mount Tarawera landing or perhaps a landing on the active volcano - White Island.  Several operators and flights by sea plane or helicopter to choose from.

Trout Fishing

A jewel for freshwater trout fishing Rotorua has plenty of lakes to choose from with 16 lakes in the district. Lake Rotorua is open all year round while the other lakes are open 1st October to the 30th June, streams from the 1st December. Experienced guides are available for half day to full day excursions.  Licenses are essential and can be purchased at reception.

Buried Village

Only 5 minutes from the Blue Lake the Buried Village takes us back to the sudden eruption of Mt Tarawera that destroyed the famous Pink and White Terraces and buried a local village.  Explore the historic artefacts in the museum and take a refreshing walk around the excavation sites and Te Wairoa Falls.  Open daily from 9am - 5pm.

Walks & Recreation
Whakarewarewa Forest Park is located adjacent to Blue Lake TOP 10 Holiday Park. In the forest, there are a variety of easy to moderate walks and tracks from 20 minutes to 8 hours. One of the more popular walks is around the Blue Lake - a 5km track along the lake edge with opportunities to stop of for a swim on the way around.

Mountain Biking
Whakarewarewera Forest has one of the best and most established mountain biking networks in the country with trails, which extend into the Conservation Forest Park, to cater from beginners and family groups to extreme and experienced riders. Detailed maps of the mountain bike tracks can be purchased from the Blue Lake TOP 10 Holiday Park reception. Mountain bikes can be hired from Planet Bikes or the Outsdoorsman Headquarters from which you can then enter the forest for an 'awesome' experience.

Zorb

Zorb Rotorua, located next to the Agrodome is the sport of rolling down the hills in a polastic orb. Revolutionary! In the Zydro ride water is added, from which you slip, slide and tumble inside or in the Zorbit, you are harnessed in and roll head over heels. Open 9am - 5pm Daily

Jet Boating
Numerous Jet Boat experiences are available. The Kawarau Jet operates from the Rotorua Lakefront and provides a 30 minutes action packed scenic jet boat ride. NZ River Jet operates on the Waikato River and goes through the spectacular Tutukau Gorge and the Huka Jet provides a ride to be remembered that takes you up to the base of the Huka Falls. Skyline Skyrides

Experience a breathtaking panoramic view of Rotorua by taking a 900m gondola ride 200m up the side of Mount Ngongotaha. Restaurant has panoramic views of Lake Rotorua - open for lunch and dinner for that special occasion.

The Luge - one of Rotorua's most popular attractions and suitable for the whole family. There are 3 Luge tracks available with a 2 km scenic ride through the Redwoods or a 1.7km or 1km trill ride for the more adventourous. Great family fun!!

Getting There

Blue Lake TOP 10 Holiday Park is located on the Blue Lake (Lake Tikitapu) - because of its popular location - most of the friendly locals can direct you to this most enjoyed Lake.

If you are travelling from the Coromandal or Bay of Plenty, you will be on State Highway 30. As you enter, Rotorua and pass the Airport continue on this road until you come to a 'large roundabout' on the corner of Tarawera Road. Turn left onto Tarawera Road and travel 8 kilometres until you come to Blue Lake TOP 10.

If you are coming to Rotorua from the North (Auckland or Hamilton), travel through Rotorua in the direction of the Airport signs (State Highway 30). From the Pak n Save / MacDonalds Corner (Corner of Fenton St and Amohau) travel towards the East (The Airport) until you reach a  'large roundabout' on the corner of Tarawera Road. Turn onto Tarawera Rd (on your right) and travel 8 kilometres until you come to Blue Lake TOP 10.

If you are travelling from Taupo, Waitomo or the South you will approach a 'roundabout' from which you will need to turn right onto Sala Street. Continue on this road, until you reach traffic lights - turn right. When you reach a second 'roundabout' turn right onto Tarawera Road and travel 8 kilometres until you come to Blue Lake TOP 10.
